Things That Annoy Me

I've been planning to write a new blog on individual things/people that annoy me for several days now. I've decided to stick it in one thread and update it frequently.

YouTube users that upload other artists' music. The act itself is not inherently evil since we all want to have access to music, but there is one particular type of uploader that I can't stand. Ya know those folks who like to make lyrics videos (also not a bad idea) and try to stick pictures in the background that go along with the song? Those folks are also the ones that stick a bunch of annoying annotations on the video with something like: "Oh my gosh, I never thought I would reach 1,000 likes! Thank you so much for all of your support. Let's get 2,000 more likes this month and I'll upload a new video!"

Asking for likes/favorites/comments is an old act and a necessary evil for a service like YouTube, especially now that amateurs can monetize videos. However, when you're simply asking for likes and favorites because you uploaded someone else's work, you're a sad little person. When you upload a popular song/live performance/etc., accept the fact that, to viewers, your account name is a minor detail filling up white space on the page and no one cares about you.

People who buy tablets. You're buying an underpowered laptop (stripped of most essential features) for twice the price of an underpowered laptop.

People that own both an iPhone and an iPad are especially annoying. The iPad is a larger iPhone that can't call people.

Tablets are a new reality though for web developers like me. It's annoying as heck but I'm stuck dealing with it and supporting users that use them. In fact, my task for tomorrow, despite it being a holiday weekend, is to handle a "bugfix" for Content Shelf pertaining to iOS file downloads. The sad part is it's not really a bug - iOS browsers simply have poor file download support and so the traditional headers a developer would send the browser to prompt a file download no longer works on iOS devices. It's incredibly frustrating when time-proven methods that have worked on every browser for over a decade suddenly no longer work because Apple decided to do it differently.

I've never touched a tablet or smartphone, ever.

To those that use smartphones: for the websites that you visit that support the option of displaying either desktop view or mobile view, which do you prefer?

The answer to that is a bit subjective, as it usually depends on how well the mobile version of the site has been designed. Even for responsive websites, a lot of times the mobile size is less functional than the full size.
