Bye Bye Apple

Postby Zorro » September 12th, 2012, 6:35 pm

The upcoming Amazon Kindle Fire HD will dominate the current Apple iPad 3 specs.

The already-existing Samsung Galaxy S3 still dominates the specs of the Apple iPhone 5 that was announced today.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will dominate the specs of the upcoming Apple iPhone 5 even more.

The upcoming Nokia Lumia 920 running the new Windows Phone 8 operating system will be the ultimate smartphone when it finally reaches the store shelves this holiday season.

The upcoming Microsoft Surface completely re-thinks the tablet from the ground up.

The upcoming Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8 completely re-thinks desktop/laptop, tablet, and mobile operating systems respectively.

There's no indication that there is going to be an Apple iPad Mini, which means Amazon, Google, and Microsoft will dominate the < 10" inch tablet market for the foreseeable future.

Long story short... The iPhone 5 is the beginning of a very slow fading away of the Apple dominance in the tech industry. For anyone who stumbles across this from a Google search - this might be a good time to sell your Apple stock.

Sincerely,
Zorro

So stupid. I stand by my original statement to you in MSN that I will never own a tablet.

First smart phones, then tablets, and now small tablets.... wtf?! Isn't a small tablet just a phone? Next they need to make big phones so we can have a mix between small phones, big tablets, medium-sized tablets, medium phones, tablet nanos, and bananas.

Seriously, it's all so stupid. PC and Phone is all you need. No inbetween. Tablets are and always will be useless pieces of crap followed by the herd cuz they're new.

We live in a trendy world indeed.

FUN FACT: Did you know that car manufacturers are producing more cars in white due to the new tech appeal it has similar to Apple products? :ugeek:

Tablets at this time serve no purpose outside of eBooks and multimedia entertainment (video, music, simple games, etc.). For example, I use my Kindle Fire to watch Netflix in bed, which is far more convenient then using a laptop. I expect the Microsoft Surface to change that around a little bit due to the 3mm thick keyboard/cover combo, which will make things involving typing a lot more productive. However, I do not expect tablets to ever become real productivity tools, at least not until computers can listen to voice commands as well as they do on Star Trek...

Women that do nothing on the computer but send emails, browse Facebook, and play spyware ridden arcade games are even finding tablets to be quite useless. And if you ask any frequent eBook user, you'll find that they prefer the Kindle or Nook E Ink readers over LCD tablets because the screens are so much easier to read.

As Blackcat said above, "We live in a trendy world indeed."

Also, if tablets don't worry you, take a good look at Windows 8.

Say goodbye to productive computing a few years from now.

Does anyone here use Notepad++ for programming?

I have a different take on Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Phone 8 then you and my boss do. I actually expect that the majority of people are going to be pleasantly surprised with it once they become familiar with the new user interface. The entire Windows 8 eco system (Windows, RT, Phone) will have better touchscreen support (yes, big 30" touchscreen table monitors less than an inch thick will be here someday for the average consumer). Windows 8 will have an entirely new app development eco-system, and will still have all of the traditional support and functionality that Windows users are used to (all your programs are still going to work just fine).

Notice the better dual monitor support? Notice your taskbar is still there? The left panel can be hidden. And, gasp! There are still desktop icons!!! Don't panic guys. Sheesh.

Yes. I use Netbeans as my IDE, and Notepad++ as my miscellaneous editor (usually CSS and JavaScript). I believe Bullet Magnet also uses Notepad++ for some of the new things he's learning.

Zorro, I didn't know you used JavaScript. I've always wondered what exactly it does and what the advantage/difference is to using it in a web page rather than something like PHP.

I use Microsoft Visual Studio for my C# programming, but I'm currently learning HTML and CSS in Notepad++ due to Zorro suggesting it. It's really great for syntax highlighting and has many advanced options but is still rather simplistic. No intellisense forces you to learn the language you're working in as well, so it's been a great learning tool.

I've turned my back on the regular Notepad and will never look back. It annoys me now.

On Windows 8, I'm thinking farther into the future. I know that we'll still have Windows 7 with a fancy start screen, but what about the next release? As long as the current system is not rendered obsolete, I'm fine with releasing the same product with new eye candy and performance improvements. But, if computing starts to learn toward the metro-style crap, count me out.
