Yea, it's an attempt by Microsoft to apply the tablet-type interface across all devices.
That's just dumb. Tablet GUI's belong on tablets. However, I've found that you have to go through Metro Start to pretty much do anything you used to do via the Start button. I'm not sure why apps were a focal point in this release. They're completely useless dumbed-down versions of modern software that are typically very unintuitive.
I see that Acer has provided all necessary Windows 7 drivers on their website for my new laptop, so I have a backup plan if Pause isn't able to work some serious magic.
