New things and updates

Hey all!

So.. there have been a lot of new updates and releases and things when it comes to our games and their platforms. I have made some notes below that correspond with different games we play. As patches, etc are released, I will go ahead and update this if need be.


Windows 8

Game Updates
Making Delta Force 2 work on this new platform works the exact same way as it does with Windows 7/Vista, however, there are many more bugs with the 64 bit version of Windows 8 when it comes to executing files for our beloved game. Putting the executable in different compatibility modes help, however, it won't fix the problem. I really wish I had some screenshots to provide with this, but there aren't any, the game just crashes. However.. one compatibility mode I noticed works the most is putting the df2.exe in Windows XP w/SP3 mode (as we usually do).

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has no issues with Windows 8. After some thorough testing I didn't notice any changes in lag, speed, graphics or anything. For an operating system that is graphics/visual heavy, it handles a workload very well. Tested on Windows 8 Professional x64/86.


Operating System Updates
For those of you like me who love our start menu's, its gone. Windows 8 has implemented the tile themed operating system that you first saw on their phones and tablets. So now, whenever you want to access something, you have to go into this tile themed menu (sorted the usual way Accessories, System Tools, etc) and choose your option from there. Cosmetically, this new OS is very different, it's got a brand new layout that looks like they wanted to bring back Windows 2000. On the back end, not much has changed from its predecessor. However, as mentioned above.. even though this new operating system is very visual intensive, it can handle a workload extremely well. Crysis 2, Prototype 2, Max Payne 3, and other high graphics games ran like a breeze on this new OS. Through my own company South Bay Computer Crew, if anyone wants this operating system, we are selling Windows 8 Professional x64 for $150 (wholesale price, woot).

yes... though it is very frustrating at first. we've been conditioned to live by a start menu since 1995. But once u get over it, its just like switching from bookmark lists in firefox to the speed dial in Opera. HEAVEN!!! OH and keyboard shortcuts help A LOT

u know .. i have noticed a few new features under the hood.. they moved the "startup" list of programs to the task manager which i suppose makes sense.. But i find that in general, a lot of the old tools have a little more layperson detail, which is nice. Like the startup list also shows what kind of impact running that program at startup will have whether it be "none" or "high".
