I'm still driving my 1994 Isuzu Pickup. I paid $1,200 for it 6 years ago. I've put 58,000 miles on it (now totaling 232,000 miles). Most of my 58,000 miles were put on it in the first three years (I don't drive much anymore since I now work from home). My only major expenditures on it outside of regular maintenance was rebuilding the clutch ($400) and new tires ($480). I'm getting ready to put new tires on it again.

I've been tempted to get modern and cool and buy a Dodge Viper, but aside from being able to break the speed limit a lot easier and attract attention, it probably wouldn't be very beneficial (not to mention 12 miles to the gallon). I will admit I've grown quite fond of my little $1,200 clunker - it's never broken down on me and still runs great.

Sounds like your Isuzu is treating you well. Clunkers ftw... I think I own one, kind of. It's the same age as I am but in way better shape as it only has a little over 60K miles and its exterior is in nice shape too.

You know, I think the cars become part of us -- our identity. Anyone else have nightmares of having their car totaled? PLPD is still cool though. I think we as humans often take things for granted such as life when it comes to our precious cars and worrying about them getting a little door ding when you could very well end up being dead on the side of the road (from force more that causes more than a door ding, obviously).

Dodge Vipers are great, Zorro. You should definitely get one although they're a bit impractical (what sports car isn't?). The trunk space, if you want to call it that, has room for about 2 pizzas and nothing else, haha.
Trips to Goodwill in one are the best.
