Hello Noobs!

For general talk about Cloud Nine / DF2.

Hello Noobs!

Postby aliceaod » November 10th, 2013, 7:34 pm

Alice here. Remember me? I was recently contacted by some DF2 players and they asked me to start the df2videos.com site again, which I did since GoDaddy was having a 1.99 special, I figured...why not. I also reinstalled the game. I have been playing TDM which I find incredibly boring so am considering hosting the old Cool's Fun Maps server.

Now, to find SOME kind of solution to the game still freezing. Someone mentioned that it's a DirectX issue. Anyone have any info on that?

I also need to know how to fix the text in the game lobby. My OS is Win7.

Hello, ol' pal.

I answered your text question at NovaHQ (turn off ClearType).

Still no known cure for the in-game freezing, unless you're referencing the freezing when joining a game.

Hey Alice. It was nice playing with you today in my incredibly boring server. :? Haha, TDM*, I know. When I hosted CTF last year though, it did not do well --just a heads up.

That's AWESOME that you plan to relaunch df2videos.com. That was a killer site. Why did you kill it?

Nice hearing from you again. 8-)

Because it was a site about DF2 Videos. LoL. But yes, I'm excited to see it back up.

And please throw up that CTF server. So much more fun than TDM.

Wow. Welcome back Alice! BM and I have often wondered where you went, and we've both missed 'ya (because you're awesome). I still have you in my MSN (now Skype) contacts but haven't seen you online in at least 18 months.

Here's what we're gonna do... I'm going to get with Pause, our squad leader and all around good guy, and together we're going to write a complete article on getting DF2 up and running on Windows 7 and Windows 8 rigs and we'll publish it at cixforums.com/df2/*. A dedicated tutorial with direct links to tools and utilities to get DF2 up and running might help bring some life back into it and at least allow this small knit community to enjoy it a few days out of the week.

Also, I have a virtual private server (which is what's hosting these forums). If you want free hosting, I've got 34 gigs of disk space left and 600 gigs of bandwidth a month. I've also got root shell access to the server so I can configure it however I want. You don't need to worry about your site disappearing from me not renewing my hosting service, since I need it for some of my work (I'm a web developer and use my VPS for misc. work stuff and testing). Just PM me if interested (BC, this offer goes for you to).
Research shows that one in three Clinton supporters are just as stupid as the other two.

I want in on this. I've played DF2 longer than most of you have lived.

We must also include the laptop fix and the Windows 8.1 fix that I've recently discovered.

It's been 48 hours and Alice hasn't responded to any of us. She just isn't the same. She's changed. Took a turn for the worst. Took a drive down the low road.

Hey Zorro. Wow, that's very courteous of you. :) I didn't know these forums were hosted on your personal server. That's cool -- you know it all. I'll be okay though. 8-) Thanks!

I just wanted to give everyone a chance to chime in before responding to all the comments! LOL No, actually, I've been working like a dog with this video script that I uploaded, trying to get everything *just right* and uploading videos to it. I have to start over from scratch!

Great to see you guys again. Thank you so much for all the compliments. I am blushing. You guys are amazing! You don't know how much I miss all of you and maybe I'm nuts, but I think about DF2 a lot. Everytime I go to launch a video game I always think, "Man, I wish this was DF2 I was logging into!".

I'm going to try and get a server going tonight in prep for this weekend. I still have a lot of files on an old WinXP machine. I might have to re-download some stuff so that I can join the server and play from another machine on the network (I still have to look into it) but I got a lot of positive feedback from the Facebook group and now here about hosting, so I shall (at least, try).

Zorro, thank you for your most generous offer! Right now I've got free web hosting from a friend who took pity on me. It's a shared server so I can't do too much and it's possible that the DF2videos.com *might* send him a warning about hogging resources (in which case I'll have to take it down) unless you're willing to host for free, that's all I can afford. Living on SS/Disability doesn't afford us much, but we make due.

The reason I took the site down in the first place was because of the domain renewal and hosting costs. The site made me zero dollars even though I had sponsors on it. If my hobbies don't bring me in some money to keep them going, then I have to let them go.

Love to you all!
Alice

I'll be looking for that server, and the site looks nice right now!

You're completely right about the quality of maps. BC, is November WAR your server? Some of the maps in there are brutal. Too much CQB is annoying (besides the wrestling arena). DF2 was made for open play.

Oh, and I can't add you on Facebook because my fiance would get mad, and I wouldn't get fed for like a week, sorry.
