DF2 in real life

Delta Force 2. It's virtual most of the time but when does it become reality? What real-life experiences have you had in connection with the game? Maybe you've met someone from DF2 or you've had an enemy track you down from it. Now is the time to reminisce about the game that brought us together or got us into a whole lot of trouble.

When I was in middle school in late 2005, I was sitting at a computer in the library just surfing the web in places where I shouldn't have been, websites that the IT technician hadn't blocked access to yet. Indeed, this school's regime showed no hesitation to exercise censorship -- blocking access to any site they deemed noneducational, even Yahoo. Shortly before I had to get to my first class of the day, I was browsing the *B2 forum when one of the librarians suddenly emerged from behind me. "I got banned," she said in an I caught you voice, reading the title to a thread posted by ToxicSpawn after he got banned from Just Shoot Me. "What is this? What are you doing?" she interrogated. I replied, "Oh, this is just a help desk forum where people go when they need technical advice as it relates to the internet." After saying that and to my surprise, she stopped questioning me for about 4 seconds before I nonchalantly exited the window, saying, "I have to get to class now" before she could dig deeper on what that site was really about.

A few months later in early 2006, I was browsing the ECS forum (another DF2 squad) before class. This time I was in a computer lab when a teacher stealthily peaked over my shoulder and uttered, "Dutchman~ECS~? Who's that?" There was no escaping that one. The teacher had seen my fellow DF2's player signature with his name spread across it alongside the fierce DF2 logo. I don't really remember how I replied to that one but the teacher wasn't happy. Needless to say, that site was blacklisted from the school's network shortly thereafter.

Another incident involves a very angry dad but I'm going to give it a rest for now. Tell me your story!

There was a weird "chat" server where I was convinced to become the online boyfriend of "2 twin sisters" when I was like 15.

Looking back, one of the weirdest things that will ever happen to anyone ever. At the time, actually kinda awesome.

My DF2 past stretches all the way back to 2000, shortly after the game's release. There's a lot of memories I have of me playing DF2. I remember the days of 20+ pages of servers, 3000+ online players at any given time, etc.

In 2007, I met a girl named Kim in one of the DF2 servers. She lives in Texas. She's Muslim, a model, a gamer, comes from Pakistan, and her parents are filthy rich. A modeling Muslim gamer is only possible here in the USA, LOL! We used to talk on the phone a lot. She still calls me on occasion; the last time she called me was right before Christmas. Her American name is Kim, but she also has a Muslim name that she doesn't use much; I obviously won't divulge it for her privacy.

I first met Blackcat in a DF2 server. I think I had seen him on MapMakersHeaven prior to meeting him in the server, but I don't recall us actually talking to each other until we met in a server. He was cheating.

I think I first met Ed (a.k.a. Pause) in a DF2 server. He was recruiting for CiX.

I think I met Tyler (a.k.a Bullet Magnet) on MapMakersHeaven. Somehow I ended up going to his wedding many years later.

Ha! I beg to differ, though I do recall you siding with Mr_KraBBs and his beliefs of me cheating one time in JSM in about 2007-2008 (I still remember the map we were on), but that was impossible because I never even experimented with trainers back then.

And speaking of Mr_KraBBs, we've had plenty of conversations on Teamspeak 2. I've managed to record a couple and found them on my old Photobucket account.

The next one is something else. He was explaining how he wanted everyone to fight with only LAWs instead of anything goes (much like how sometimes we did knives only). I wasn't recording during the first ranting session so I asked him to repeat himself as "I wasn't paying attention." That's where the recording starts. WARNING: EXPLICIT CONTENT!

Those were the times where people took the game extremely seriously. I'm glad DF2 simmered down; people were losing their heads. CB killed it!

Haha. I struck a nerve. w00t!

Anywho, I was playing DF2 long before CB was even conceived. I definitely agree that CB helped kill DF2. The final blow to DF2 was was dealt when Novalogic released that stupid patch and moved the servers. DF2's best days were in 2002-2005; this was when the game had matured, and when unofficial, clan-independent, 24/7 servers like ~SJ's~ NO SAWS were present (my favorite DF2 server of all time).

Yeah, remember those Nazis at GoLD? Oh, and remember how anal the Allied Powers server was? You couldn't even hold down the jump key while running! One DF2 player (a controversial one) had enough and hacked AP's site. They were ticked. One of their members found out where the hacker lived and called his dad and explained that his kid was cheating in their server and hacking their website. His dad grounded him for awhile, I was told, lol.

The dudes at CB were overzealous. Anyone who didn't install their cute little program was suddenly under extreme scrutiny. One time in early 2006, I downloaded CB and installed a mod from MMH that was supposed to be CB-compatible. It wasn't and I was locked from playing my game!

However, I think the true decline of DF2 started when BM began to use his yellow text hack and the people in the servers started freaking out, lol.

My favorite DF2 moment ever was when I replicated all of Phobos' in-game actions and repeated everything he said. Had him convinced I was a weird bot anomaly.
